Mission & Outreach
Mountain View is connected both globally and locally through our faith and missions. The church and its members are engaged
in a very wide range of mission projects that have a dynamic impact in the local, national and international regions. These
mission projects literally span the globe.
The church
is committed to ensuring that a minimum of 10% or our operating budget goes directly to missions. The Outreach Committee disburses
these funds throughout the year. Mountain View members are encouraged to bring mission projects to the attention of the Outreach
Committee for possible funding or volunteer support. Additionally all Sunday School offerings are dedicated 100% to mission
programs.
Even more important are the many ways that Mountain
View gets involved in a direct way to support mission projects with our hearts and hands. Members engage their time in everything
from building or repairing homes to gleaning fields for the hungry to visiting the sick and imprisoned.

Missionary Covenant Relationship:
Mountain View has entered into a covenant relationship (on-going annual support) with a missionary couple in the Congo. They
are Jacques and Valentine Akassa and they provides local air transportation for missionaries and vital supplies in central
Africa. (see bottom of this page for recent letter from them)
-
Angel Tree: Each Christmas season Mountain View hosts an Angel Tree for children in our local area who would
otherwise not receive Christmas presents.
- Church Yard Sale: The church hosts a huge Yard Sale with
100% of the proceeds going to missions. Look for the date of the Yard Sale in the bulletin and in announcements.
- Jamaica
Medical and Construction Mission Teams: Each year church members participate in medical mission teams and construction
teams that serve the poor rural mountainous regions of Jamaica.
- Local Missions: A host of local mission
projects are supported both financially and through volunteerism. These range from well know projects such as Habitat for
Humanity and Meals on Wheels to lesser-known local projects such as food pantries, homeless shelters, countywide support programs
and sometimes just simply helping out a local family in need.
- St. Andrew Club: Mountain View sponsors
this hunger relief program that involves churches of all denominations throughout central Virginia. This is done in support
of the Society of St. Andrew (www.endhunger.org) a domestic hunger organization. By joining the St. Andrew Club, Mountain
View members and families help provide fresh produce to hundreds of thousands of hungry Americans throughout the year. Everyone
is encouraged to join this wonderful program that feeds the hungry here at home.
Want to know more about the various mission projects of Mountain View? Take a look at the Missions Bulletin
Board in the Narthex to see the far-reaching impact of Mountain View in the world and in our own community. On the bulletin
board you will find both long-term and timelier information about the missions of the church.
Everyone at Mountain View is welcome to suggest worthy mission projects for the church. Please pass this information
on to any member of the Outreach Committee.
A letter from
our Covenant Missionaries in the Congo.
Dear Brothers
and Sisters in Christ,
We greet you again in the name of our
Lord Jesus Christ. We are still your missionaries in Central Congo Episcopal Area. Since last year to now many things happened
in the life of the church here especially with the election of our new bishop Rev. Dr. David YEMBA KIKUMBA who for last 15
years was the dean of the theological school at Africa University in Zibambwe. We need your support to carry the message of
our Lord out. There are many things to do in this area and it is only with God willingness that we can get to fulfill our
dream which is to proclaim God's gospel.
We are still working
as pilot with Wings of caring aviation ministry. Something to rejoice is that during the last session of the annual conference
for Central Congo at Wembo-Nyama, we were able to save the life of a young person from one of our mission station. He had
"Meningite". We flew him to the hospital where his life was saved. Also we another person this time a sick woman
to the hospital where she is getting treatment. We receive more and more of these kind of requests but sometime we just can't
respond as we just because of shortage of fuel.
Please extend
our love to the kids and we hope sometime we might able to visit you guys.
In Christ,
Jacques and Valentine.
