Disciple 1
Have
you ever felt like you wanted to take a deeper look at the Bible? Or have you thought about participating
in a Disciple Study in the past but didn’t feel that you could commit to the extended period of study? Or
perhaps you’ve been through a Disciple study some time ago and felt like you want to reconnect to that deeper spiritually
enriching experience?
A new shorter-term Disciple Study is starting up
and you are invited. We are planning to start "Invitation to the New Testament" in mid January.
Sunday School
- Financial Bible Study
With the economy reeling in the wake of the recent recession, many people are experiencing such financial
challenges as credit card debt, downsizing, dead-end jobs, and inadequate or depleted savings. With these challenges, come
others as well. Recent studies confirm that more than half of all divorces are the result of financial pressures at home.
And spiritually, many people are struggling to maintain a biblical perspective amidst the constant tug of materialism. But
there is hope. The Bible has a lot to say about money. In fact, the Bible is a veritable blueprint for managing your finances.
In Your Money Counts, trusted financial expert Howard Dayton shows you how to manage your personal finances in a
highly practical, biblically-based way. Please join Jeff Kraber before service on Sunday. mrkaffee@verizon.net
Depression Support Group
If you or someone you know
suffers from depression please consider a support group opportunity. Please contact Shannon Shaw with any questions.
*keep your eye out for bulletin updates.
Ladies Bible Study
The Ladies Bible Study will start back up right after Labor Day! The morning group will meet on Thursdays
(beg. 9/8) from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and the evening group will meet on Mondays (beg. 9/12) from 6:30-8:00 p.m. We will begin
with “Believing God” by Beth Moore which will take us into November and the workbook is $15. AND THEN…a
new Beth Moore study comes out called “Mercy Triumphs,” a study on the book of James. We’ll finalize
those details as it gets closer. ALL ladies are welcome and we hope to see you there. Contact Kristi Whaley for
more info..
From These Hands
We
meet the 4th Monday of each month in the Parlor from 9:30-11:30 (but drop by anytime in between!).
For those who knit or crochet AND anyone who would like to learn are invited to "Come and See"!
First, we have a brief devotion and someone usually has a story or God-sighting to share. If you don't know how to knit
or crochet, we will pair you with someone who can teach you or help you troubleshoot a monkey wrench in a current project.
We've got pattern books available to look through too. For those who are already "Yarnies", bring a
work in progress or completed project to share... just come! On their own time, folks work on prayer shawls, afghans,
baptism blankets (new addition to the repertoire) lap robes, chemo caps... whatever you make, we will (or He will) find a
recipient to be blessed by it. At present we are more of a fellowship group than an actual ministry, but we're working
while we have prayers ascending as to where it will all lead - and you know what happens when the prayer warriors
of MV pray! "From These Hands" seems to encompass all gifts whether
knit, crochet, sewn, etc and we are His hands in service to His family... We're excited to see where He takes us
on this new adventure. Questions?? Contact Kim Phillips.
Tables of Eight
Join a group for just four months and fellowship with one another over dinner.
If you are interested, contact Shannon Shaw and when she gets a group together, she will start you off with all the details
and options. You will just meet four times and then you can join another group for four more months - what a great way
to get to know your church family! Let Shannon know you can't wait to start. All are welcome
– singles and couples (Shannon will figure it out!)
Genealogy Chat Room
Learn
more about yourself by learning about those that came before you. Come join in the chat, as we discuss how and where
to find information, and ways to record the information that you do find on your ancestors. Of course, we all love to
share and hear the old family stories that have been passed down from generation to generation. Whether they are true or not
is what many of us are trying to find out!! We are meeting on the first Thursdays of the month in the conference room
at 7pm.
Soul Food
Soul Food is an opportunity for
a group of women to get together & cook meals. We will cook to feed our families, help others that may need a meal &
of course to have a good time while we are doing it! Join this small group to feed your soul and your family~ if
you have any questions please contact Pat Kuhland.
Sunday School - Discovery
Discovery Sunday School is now studying the NT book of Hebrews. Come
and see us in the Parlor (across the Narthex from Crossbucks), bring your coffee or tea, and a friend. Even though our study
is underway, it's never too late to join in and discover what the book of Hebrews is about. Everyone is welcome
to join us for prayer time and study on Sunday mornings at 9am!
Sunday School - Sojourners
Grace is a gift freely given. All we have to do is accept it. Come journey through Paul's
Epistle of Galatians and learn about grace. Paul's words in this letter give us a lot to think about and presents
to all Christians what is expected of us on our faith journey. This is the letter that propelled Martin Luther into
the age of Reformation, where the Protestant church was born. In January we will begin Galatians 5. Join with us as we study the scripture and discussed how they apply to us today.
We meet in Room 15 at 9am before service on Sunday.
Sunday School - Serendipity
Want to test your insight on the sermon’s topic scripture before you
hear the sermon? This class takes the topic scripture and then works through the lesson containing that scripture in
the Serendipity study Bible. Every lesson is self contained making this a great choice for those who want to get into
a study, but can’t commit to every week. Please join us in the Conference room at 9am before service
on Sunday.
SALT (Senior Adults Learning Together)
Each month, usually on a Tuesday, this
group gathers for interesting programs and fellowship. They also make numerous excursions in and out of town. All adults
are welcome – we won’t ask for ID! Check the bulletin for details. If you
have any questions, please contact Gayle at 525-6612.
